I am Kenya Reed and I teach English at the Freshman High School.

I grew up in Portales and graduated from Floyd High School. I later graduated from NMSU. I earned my undergraduate degree in English with a minor in Journalism and then earned my master's degree in secondary education.

The reason I want to teach is because I love seeing the spark of understanding in a student's eye after teaching a lesson. I love to learn about them and see what they are interested in so I can apply those interests to my lessons. Let's be real: Teachers are nerds about one thing or another. Nerding out with students is one of the best parts of teaching!

My favorite memory from my own days in school is when my mom was my English teacher. We read Greek myths and made giant posters of our assigned Greek god or goddess. I loved that activity!

In my spare time I read, watch movies, play with my puppy and go out with friends.

My favorite book is:  As an English teacher, I have many favorite books. Some of my favorites are Pride and Prejudice, the Harry Potter series, Frankenstein, Rebecca, Dracula, and A Christmas Carol.
