baseballThe HHS baseball team unfurled its district championship banner - the first in nearly two decades - during the opening round of the state baseball championships played at home. The Eagles beat Gadsden, earning the right to advance to competition in Albuquerque.

Gov. Susanna Martinez made friends with Broadmoor kindergartners when she dropped in on the school on May 6.

Juan Carlos Medina was the Pursuing Victory with Honor winner in the Skills USA category when the Character Counts program handed out recognition to students countywide on May 4 for being good sports on the athletic field and other areas of competition - including band, debate and cheerleading.

Cynthia Trevino, Pam Porter, Tammy Rotunno, Pam Black and Diane Dittrich were the 2011 Veteto Excellence in Education award winners -- announced during the May 3 Service Awards Program.

Junior high school teachers Deb Mitchell and Janet Davis all 12 elementary schools and looked at the work of each classroom before selecting a first place winner for each room. Winners will be on display at the Western Heritage Musuem and a reception is scheduled for May 14.
