Don't Drop the Ball: Hobbs Students Show Up for Attendance and Art!

Hobbs Municipal Schools hit a slam dunk with its "Don't Drop the Ball" attendance campaign, proving that when students are engaged, they show up! This initiative beautifully blends school pride, art, and the critical goal of daily attendance, demonstrating the district's commitment to a Student-Centered approach.

A Canvas for Commitment

The centerpiece of the campaign was an art challenge to design an original Eagle artwork illustrating the theme: "Don't Drop the Ball - Attend Daily!". The response from K-12 students was overwhelming, with over 900 submissions pouring in. This incredible participation showcases the students' desire to play an active role in their education and reinforces the HMS value of Innovation—the willingness to adapt in the best interest of all learners.

The challenge is more than just about drawing; it is about embodying the qualities of the Portrait of an Eagle. Submissions required Critical Thinking to understand the "bigger picture" of daily attendance, and Communication to effectively express thoughts and ideas through art. The sheer volume of participation is a testament to the students' Growth Mindset, embracing curiosity and seeking new ideas.

Basketball Teams Take the Lead

In a heartwarming display of teamwork and Service, the Hobbs Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams spearheaded the next phase. After teaming up with our Digital Media team to create a video that promotes the initiative, the players took on the role of judges, carefully selecting 14 winners whose artwork will be featured on the teams' official warm-up jerseys.

This collaborative effort goes beyond academics, focusing on students' outcomes beyond academics and fulfilling the value of Capacity Building by developing mentorship and recognizing improvements in teaching and learning. It is a powerful example of how the district seeks to Recognize and celebrate improvements—not just in attendance rates, but in school spirit and artistic talent.

Stay tuned as the teams will help to notify each of the winners individually. The 14 winners will be recognized during the upcoming holiday tournament and receive the exciting opportunity to sit court-side during a game this season. By showcasing student learning and valuing student voice, the "Don't Drop the Ball" campaign is a championship example of how Hobbs Municipal Schools is meeting the need and ensuring that every decision positively impacts student experiences.

This campaign is far more than an attendance drive; it’s a district-wide celebration of talent, commitment, and what it means to be a Hobbs Eagle.
