HMS Teacher Mentoring Program

Welcome to the Hobbs Municipal School District's Mentor Program Website.

The Mentor Program is designed to provide quality support to beginning teachers in the Hobbs Municipal School District.

The effective mentor serves as a coach to offer support and practical advice to beginning teachers based on observation and conversation of the beginning teacher's professional experiences. The mentor and the new teacher come together as a professional learning community where the focus is placed on student achievement and authentic pedagogy. In depth conversations will revolve around the science of teaching, exploring best practices, the outcomes of student learning, and the New Mexico State Teaching Competencies. Additionally, the beginning teacher will receive content specialty support from fellow teachers practicing in the same grade level/content area during PLC and grade level/content meetings.

Goals:

  • To support new teachers to the District
  • To strengthen new teacher skills, competence, and confidence
  • To improve student learning by providing all students with well prepared teachers.
  • To improve school climate through professional growth for all educators
  • To provide the support infrastructure necessary to retain quality teachers
  • To improve the quality of instruction by assuring that all teachers experience professional success
  • To provide the support infrastructure necessary to retain quality teachers
