As our society continues to face unprecedented adversity and struggle each day, we have a choice in our response to that adversity. If we allow it to consume us, we never get any traction. I can attest that the effect of continued adversity and struggle seems unforgiving. Or we can recognize the adversity and choose a different path and attitude. I strive to choose the second option - realizing that there is good in everything - and build from there. By realizing the good, I free myself up to be thankful and am often even thankful for the struggle. Without struggle growth is slow and probably non-existent.
One thing I am certain of is that thankfulness takes the sting out of adversity. Thankfulness calls us to realize the good in all things and not that all things are good. Simply put, there are bad things in life but in those things there is good. I am amazed at the joy received when thanks is given.
Students of Hobbs Municipal Schools, I am thankful for your perseverance and commitment to get better each day. Your potential is realized by your perseverance. One thing I ask you to remember is that education is hard. Learning should be difficult. Continue to grow through that adversity. Because it is through that adversity you will realize those people to be thankful for.
Teachers and staff of our district don’t always get to see the fruit of their labor. They invest their time and energy into our students, many times sacrificing their own selves and families. This occurs often without a “thank you.” Staff pour their heart and soul into our kids and may not get to see the results. However, they keep doing it! For their relentless effort, resilience, energy, compassion, grace and professionalism, Hobbs Municipal Schools is THANKFUL!
