🚨 Attention Hobbs Eagle Community: The 2- & 4-Mill Levy election is Nov 4th.
Both will be on the ballot for consideration.
⭐How HMS pays for things like core school facilities, maintenance, vehicles, and classroom technology , plus larger-scale technology infrastructure and facility projects for safety & security — the important things that keeps our students safe and the schools running smoothly every day is through Mill Levy funds.
👉If you’re not sure what these levies will mean for YOUR property tax bill:
If both SB9 & HB33 pass, you’ll see NO INCREASE in your tax bill because the levies will continue as an existing tax. Maintaining the existing rate of 2 Mill and 4 Mill would generate an average of $13 million per year
A Home valued at $100,000 would see the same rate of $198 per year $16.67 per month 56¢ per day!
👉What do these funds cover?
Mill levy monies are a major contributor to keeping students current in an ever-changing digital world. Thanks to past mill levy funds, our schools and classrooms are equipped with up-to-date computers and audio visual equipment which allow them to take advantage of online video and digital curriculum. Our district also benefits from online grade books and software programs which help students build skills at every grade level. But technology isn’t limited to the classroom. It also is essential for security systems, phone systems, heating and cooling systems, cafeteria operations and much more.
⭐Both 2 & 4 Mill Levies combined give HMS the funds needed for the district to ensure the excellent upkeep of facilities and important tangibles for students and staff.
💡 Important to know: By New Mexico State Statute, Mill Levy funds cannot be used for teacher salaries. They are only for educational facilities, technology, and other tangible needs that directly impact students and classrooms.
🗳️Your voice matters...so please make a plan to vote!
Early voting ends Nov. 1 st. and Election Day is Nov. 4th.

Thank you Mr. Strickland for your impact and vision for our students unique futures in Hobbs Schools every day!

On the Nov. 4th ballot: Two important mill levies, the 2-Mill and 4-Mill. These are existing property tax levies that help fund vital services in our school community —
🔹 2 Mill Levy → Focuses on core school facilities, maintenance, vehicles, and classroom technology.
🔹 4 Mill Levy → Covers those same needs PLUS larger-scale technology infrastructure and facility projects.
👉If both SB9 & HB33 pass, you’ll see NO increase in your tax bill because the levies will continue as an existing tax which is already in place.
⭐Maintaining the existing rate of 2 Mill and 4 Mill would generate an average of $13 million per year for equipment and other tangible items that are vital district -wide, across all student educational programs.
A home valued at $100,000 would see the same rate of $198 per year or $16.67 per month, which is 56¢ per day!

Is making slime fun? Our HMS Board President Terry O'Brain got to test this theory with students at Mills Elementary Tuesday. Using Emily Calandrelli’s book ‘Stay Curious and Keep Exploring’- elementary students across the district formed hypotheses, asked clarifying questions and documented their findings-all while learning about liquids and solids and how when combined, can make something new! It was a great day to be a third grader at HMS!

Did you know that our Nutrition Services whenever possible orders New Mexico food products and other items to ensure that we are supporting the local and state economy?
1000 pounds of New Mexico Beef and 600 pounds of New Mexico Beans means that today our students are getting the best in their lunch and makes a day like ‘Taco Tuesday’ even more delicious!
As always, it is a great day to eat school lunch at HMS!⭐️

HMS wants to thank the Hispano Chamber for recognizing Mr. Calderon and his servant's heart for Hobbs.

HMS would like to inform the community that services for longstanding educator and HMS School Board member Peggy Appleton, along with her husband Terry will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 10:30 am at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. HMS would like to thank all who have contacted us and shared great stories about their service to the students of Hobbs, and sympathy and prayers for their family and to our staff. The Appleton's will truly be missed by all at HMS and in Hobbs . They were the best example of service above self.

Today at Stone Elementary students in Mrs. Mata's 5th grade class (99.13%) and Mrs. Gordy's 1st grade class (96%) were this weeks winners of "We Caught you in Class" competition! We are so proud of these students and their efforts to be in class to get the most our of what they are learning every day from their teachers. Well done students !. #studentcentered #capacity building
